Kollam : Police will today question Reshma in jail in the case involving infant’s death after she abandoned the newborn in a leafy pit soon after birth. Police officials will visit her at Attakulangara jail where she is lodged under remand. Police decided to go ahead with questioning Reshma - a resident of Chezhuvila Veedu in Kollam’s Oozhayod - turned negative for covid. Although police petitioned the court for her custody earlier, consent was turned down owing to Reshma’s covid infection.
Soon after arrest, Reshma had testified she abandoned the baby for being able to live with the ‘lover’ she connected up on Facebook. That “lover” was a non-existent character fabricated in a cruel prank by her relatives-in-law - Arya and Greeshma. The police are looking to find more details on Reshma’s interactions with the Arya Greeshma – both of who committed suicide in panic, when police called them for questioning.
Arya was Reshma’s co-sister and Greeshma her husband Vishnu’s niece. Both women created a fake Facebook account by the name “Ananthu” and chatted with Reshma over one-and-half-years instigating a romantic involvement that intensified over time. The case got its major lead when one of Greeshma’s friends and Arya’s mother-in-law shared information with the police, following which the officials petitioned Chief Judicial Court in Kollam for to record secret testimonies of the two.
