Kalpetta, Kozhikode: Authorities are planning to extend nighttime traffic curfew to 12 hours in Bandhikpur region along Kozhikode Mysore national highway. The move came following Karnataka demand after another elephant was killed by running vehicle last night in this stretch. The curfew currently runs from 9 at night to 6 in the morning. The demand is to pull the starttime behind by three hours – i.e. curfew from 6 pm evening to 6 am morning.
Last evening around 9 pm a cargo lorry hit the tusker down, between Moolahalla and Madhur checkpost laong Kerala – Karnataka border. The accident happened owing to overspeeding on the truck driver’s part in an effort to cross over before curfew began.
