Idukki : Following rising waters, three of Mullaperiyar dam shutters(V2, V3, V4) are raised by 0.3 meter, releasing 534 cubic feet per second(cusec) of water out from the reservoir.
Residents on either shores of Periyar have been advised extreme caution. Water discharge would be raised to 1000 cusecs two hours from now.
The dam shutters were upped at 1 pm noon. Tamil Nadu notified on the impending release roughly an hour-and-half prior, at 11.30 am.
The rains had eased a bit in the catchment area prompting authorities to wait and see, if water might not actually touch the rule curve, hence the delay up to now in opening of shutters.
