New Delhi : Kerala in its submission to the Supreme Court seeking re-examination and revisal of Muallaperiyar’s Rule Curve that currently allows the dam to store up to 142 ft water in its reservoir. In the affidavit submitted Monday, Kerala stated that building of a new dam is the only permanent solution to the crisis.
The Mullaperiyar case was up for hearing recently and the Supreme Court asked Kerala for its detailed response on the issue. The existing Rule Curve is unacceptable, said Kerala. The nature of monsoons have undergone drastic transformation in the past four years and has adverse implications for Mullaperiyar, said state in its affidavit.
It now takes only a couple of days rain to cause rise of dam water levels. The changes to climate and rainfall should be taken into account and a revisal made to Rule Curve accordingly, said Kerala.
