Thiruvananthapuram : No order that contradicts government’s stand before the Supreme Court shall be sustained, no matter who the issuing official of such order might be, said minister for forest AK Saseendran. The minister was referring to the controversial permission granted by wildlife warden to Tamil Nadu for felling of 15 trees close to the Baby Dam at Mullaperiyar.
The order dated 5 Nov, stands revoked. The government, in time-bound manner, will examine circumstances under which the order was issued and also look to see if it accompanied mandatory central government approvals, said the minister. The government will not accept any decision detrimental to the safety of the dam or one that diminishes safety of people’s lives in the state, the minister said.
The government’s take on Mullaperiyar issue is : safety for Kerala and water for Tamil Nadu. The Legislative Assembly of Kerala had passed unified resolution on this account and the government of Kerala’s submission before the Supreme Court aligns wholly with the resolution. At no point has the government ever deviated from that stand, the minister said Monday, responding to adjournment notice moved by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
