Thiruvananthapuam : KPCC's Rashtriya Karya Samiti's at Friday’s meeting largely took the view that Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran should quit their posts, taking responsibility for huge electoral losses suffered by the party. Mullappally fought that blame arguing he was not the only person accountable for the situation. To that, Oomen Chandy clinched the blame saying Mullappally was ‘also” responsible. At the end of the long-drawn debates, the meeting concluded strategically calling for a complete structural overhaul.
The Rashtriya Karya Samiti will hold another meeting to assess election fiasco further. The Friday meeting decided to do away with jumbo committees too. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Karya Samiti will seek report from the DCC Presidents on why the party lost. In the aftermath of defeat at local body elections, though it was decided to change DCC leaderships, Groups did not come forth to bring about that change however. Incidentally, party seniors are of the view that even a thorough revamping will not be of much help to the party.
Following the defeat, lleaders including Oomen Chandy had come to the open accepting responsibility for the debacle - a tactic designed to lull criticism on the party’s current state of affairs. Oomen Chandy had said he was number one responsible for the defeat, given his party capacity as the Election President. However, it is time to stop the blame game and focus on way forward, he had added. Ramesh Chennithala asked the meeting to leave it to the High Command to decide on leadership change, adding that, he was ready to fully accept all decisions relating to Congress and Legislative party.
Mullappally reiterated his claim that despite each and everybody having their share in election debacle, some members were trying to place all accountability on his head. PJ Kurien shot back with scathing criticism, blaming Mullapally and Chennithala squarely for the situation, emphasising the duo must go. The candidate selection did not go in line with AICC recommendations and some leaders hounded persons they disliked, said Kurien. At the meeting, K Sudhakaran too demanded that Mullappally call it quits.
