Malappuram: Strife and exits surrounding party decisions have caused huge quakes in Muslim League. Several workers exited the party unable to ingest its ties with Jamaat-e-Islami and Welfare Party, while dissent over candidate selection has spelt havoc at its other centres. Office bearers in various ward committees are among those that resigned of late. And, that includes the party’s state treasurer and secretary.
In Melathoor, protest over ties with Welfare Party saw resignations from Melhatoor League Panchayat Committee member ,K. P. Ummar, and several others. At Ward-7 in Panthapetti, members of League ward committee tendered mass resignations over seat allocation to Welfare Party. Resignees include : Secretary Karuvally Ibrahim, Treasurer Kallathumpadiyan Ibrahim, KP Abdul Latif and K Shameer.
STU State leader now LDF candidate
STU state secretary and general secretary to Kerala Agricultural Workers’ Union , KK Hamsa, became LDF candidate after quitting League. He will contest from ward-8 in Kunnamangalam. An active leader at Kerala Agricultural Workers’ Union since 1995, Hamsa was League panchayat member in 2010. In League, individuals working for the workers segment do not find acknowledgement they deserve in says Hamsa.
Youth League Committees Dissolved in Thirur
Youth League committees in Thirur following en masse resignations. In ward-5 of Thirur Municipality, several Youth League members including office bearers tendered resignations over candidate selection upheaval.
There was ballot voting arranged to decide on the candidate there and League worker Naushad bagged majority vote. However the Municipal Committee declared defeated contestant, Mishaf, as the candidate. The outright highhandedness led to huge outcry, the echoes of which rippled through Pukayil region and Youth League office bearers and members in wards 1, 3 and six tendered resignation in large numbers.
There is also dissent brewing over fielding Saleena - an office bearer at Welfare Party’s feeder organisation ,Women Justice - as League candidate in Thirur. She will fight polls from Municipality’s ward -38, where League has lend her seat as their independent candidate.
