Kannur : CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan sent defamation notice to gold-smuggling accused Swapna Suresh for making defamatory allegations. The Notice was sent through, Nicholas Joseph - a lawyer in Thalliparambu. The notice was sent through Nicholas Joseph, a lawyer in Taliparam, and claimed Rs 1 crore in compensation for raising slanderous allegations.
The notice stated that Swapna Suresh, on 9 March, came up on Facebook Live saying a mediator named Vijay Pillai had approached her claiming he was sent by MV Govindan. Swapna said Vijay Pillai asked her to withdraw all allegations against the Chief Minister and his family and disappear for good. For starting a new life in obscurity , Swapna said, Vijay offerred her Rs 30 crores in return. The print and visual media in Malayalam and English carried Swapna’s claim as prominent news.
Swapna’s allegations were aimed at spoiling personal reputation and defame the leader, the Notice said. The Notice further asks Swapna to unconditionally withdraw the wholly untrue and baseless allegations through two leading Malayalam newspapers and all television channels.
