NEET PG: Allocating Exam Centres Outside State Should Be Reviewed - Brittas

Web DeskUpdated: Thursday Aug 1, 2024

New Delhi : MP John Brittas wrote to Health Minister JP Nadda seeking review of decision by the National Medical Science Board to allocate examination centres as far as Andhra Pradesh, for NEET PG candidates hailing from  Kerala.

Roughly 10,000 doctors from Kerala are writing the PG entrance exam this time. After several postponements, the exam is scheduled for 11th of August. The only name featuring in the Wednesday notification, is that of a town in Andhra Pradesh. The actual address of exam centre is unclear.

The current stand of notifying exam centres only on  8th August, will put candidates through considerable stress. Traveling to examination centres located 1000 km away at such short notice would be stressful.  Further, the cost of travel and accommodation required will be disadvantageous to bright students from unprivileged backgrounds. Accommodation, especially for female aspirants, would be tricky.  Also, managing to get a ticket to scheduled destination on such short notice too is a pain.

On top, with Wayanad reeling from of unprecedented disaster, taking junior doctors away from the State at such time will affect relief efforts adversely. Candidates from other states outside Andhra too face similar dilemma, said John Brittas  in his letter, and sought appropriate intervention to ensure examination centres  allotted are within one’s State.
