Thiruvananthapuram : New depression formed over Arabian sea close to Karnataka coast. The depression heading north west will intensify in next 48 hours. This is the 47th depression to occur during the north east(thula) rainy season in Kerala. However, the current depression is not worrisome as it will pass without a landfall on coasts here.
Meanwhile, rains have been forecast across the state for today and tomorrow. There will isolated severe rains in hilly regions of the state’s northern districts.
The depression close to Karnataka has formed over mid-east Arabian sea. Fishing boats are prohibited from taking to seas from Kerala-Lakshadweep shores up to the 16th, from western Kerala coasts also up to 16 and from coastal Karnataka up to the 17th. The IMD has warned of high winds that could gust up to 60 km per hour.
