Kochi : Load testing has completed on Palarivattom flyover - bridge constructed in place of the demolished one. The tests ending Wednesday were performed on two major spans of length 35 and 22 meter respectively. After a 24-hour observation, RBDCK (Road and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala) will submit its report to PWD(Public Works Department).
If the report upon assessment is found satisfactory, the RBDCK and PWD will issue certificate, post which, the flyover will open for the public If all goes well, the flyover will be handed over to govt on Friday.
The load testing commenced on 20th February. Tests in the first phase were complete for span measuring 35 meter, after the successful run of which, the remaining 22 meter span was put to to load capacity tests.
According to sources, no weakness or defect was observed in the structural behaviour during the testing processes. The flyover may be thrown open to traffic this week itself, with due nod from the government. Street lights have been fixed. Retarding works too are largely complete. Although, government allowed a period up to June for reconstruction, the flyover now stands completed 3 months before time.
