Kozhikode : The Health department has stepped up preventive measures in view of Nipah confirmations in the district. A high-level meeting to take stock of the situation is due to be held later in the day that will see participation of ministers Veena George, PA Muhammad Rias, Ahmed Dewar Kovil and AK Saseendran.
The Central team of experts will meanwhile visit areas confirmed with the virus. 950 people currently remain in contact list. A report on test results yesterday stated 11 samples were negative. Samples of 15 more from the high-risk category on contact lists are being sent for tests today. The Health Department informed the police will help track persons put into contact list with help of their mobile tower locations.
Masking has been made compulsory in Kozhikode district. The mobile team of Pune NIV is all ready to process samples. Also a team from Rajiv Gandhi Centre from Biotechnology is on way to the district.
The Health Minister said Isolation wards have been arranged for in private hospitals in case the infection numbers rise. The Minister directed KMSCL to ensure ample medicine and safety gear supplies.
