Kozhikode : The Animal Husbandry department clarified it will continue collection and testing of saliva samples from bats and other animals in a bid to trace Nipah source infecting humans. Samples would be collected in Thottipalamm and Paikalangadi in Kuttiyadi - the sites to recent virus outbreaks. Samples would be collected from bats, other wild species as well as livestock close to forest borders and areas affected by the virus this time.
Also, animals found dead from unnatural causes would be sampled for saliva and postmortemed by the Forest and District Animal Husbandary department in the district. 10 samples of dates in affected areas too have been collected.
The experts team from the Centre, the Forest dept and Kerala Agricultural Institute, Palode , and the District Animal Hunbandry dept held discussions recently.
