Kozhikode : Virology results for Nipah virus come negative for three hospitalised in Kozhikode. The test on patient samples were done at VRDL lab of Kozhikode Medical College.
In the wake of two Nipah deaths in the district, the Health Department is taking no chances and has begun extensive study to trace virus origins. Both who died were Gulf returnees whose arrivals were two months apart. However, authorities are unsure if the virus came borne from abroad.
The first victim was Maruthonkara native, Mohammed, who owns a estate that he has leased for farming. The Health officials are looking to see if the sprawling farm is also habitat to bats, a known carrier of the deadly virus.
Experts from the Centre from the Bird Survey Setion of Indian Council for Medical Research and a team led by Dr. Balasubramaniam from the Pune Virology Insitute are also due to arrive for an in-depth study hoping to trace the source of virus Nipah.
