Nipah Test Relieving; Samples From Parents of Deceased Child Are Negative

Kozhikode : Samples from eight symptomatic persons sent to the Pune virology institute, including those from the deceased child’s  parents, have come negative, said Health Minister Veena George. Three samples from each, who were considered high-risk, were sent to the institute.

 Apart from the boy’s parents, also included in the testing batch, were samples from the health staff involved in treating the child. It will be possible to send all additional samples for testing by today, the minister said.

Five samples are being tested at the lab set up at Kozhikode Medical College under joint supervision of staff from Kozhikode Medical College and NID, Pune. The results for these will take a bit longer. There are 48 who are considered high-risk individuals. Of them, 8 samples have been received with negative results from Pune institute and testing of 5 are underway at Kozhikode Medical College lab. Apart from these, a few samples were sent to Pune still earlier. It will be possible to process all samples that would require testing, the minister said.
