New Delhi : The Attorney General rejected plea seeking permission to conduct  contempt proceedings in Criminal Court against Minister R Bindu. The plea came filed from  BJP’s former state spokesperson Sandeep Warrier.

In rejecting Warrier’s plea, the Attorney General R Venkita Ramani observed that  remarks made by the minister do fall contempt purview.

The court had cancelled appointment of Dr.MS Rajashree as Vice Chancellor of Technical University. In his plea with the Attorney General, Warrier alleged that Minister Bindu’s remarks  post that ruling was derogatory in nature and amounted to contempt of the Supreme Court.

However, the Attorney General ruled that minister's remarks could not attract charges. To make the point the AG quoted the 1971 Contempt of Court Law to show how the  remarks could not be sustained  under Sec 15(1)b
