New Delhi : There would be no reduction in duty hiked on petroleum products, clarified Centre. In his reply to MP John Brittas, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told Rajya Sabha that petrol and diesel prices were reduced by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively. The reduction is meant to bring respite to commoners and to boost the economy, the minister said.
The minister further said that Centre collected Rs 2.14 lakh crores in Excise Duty in the year 2018-19 and Rs 3.72 lakh crores in 2020 – 21. In the first half of 2021-22, the Centre earned Rs 1.7 lakh crores.
