Covid care centres to be put up at airports

No Fresh Covid Case Reported Today ; Police-led Screening Now On To Ramp Up Monitoring : CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : There has been no new instance of coronavirus today, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after  a meeting called at Secretariat to review the current situation.


Since the illness is spreading rapidly worldwide there is need for high vigil. Regulations imposed so far has been effective, said CM. Food supplies shall be ensured to those under home-surveillance. We need more volunteers to be deployed for preventive activities. More people shall be brought up on for the purpose. The meeting held today decided to involve police personnel in order to raise awareness on the virus and preventives, the minister added.

Police shall participate in screening activity alongside health workers. Special teams headed by SPs shall be deployed at airports. Teams overseen by DYSPs shall monitor passengers at railway stations. The police-led screenings will take off  tonight.  The govt has directed District Police Chiefs to restrict festival gatherings and prayer meetings.

 

It has also been decided to intensify screening at inter-state highways, railway stations and bus hubs. The govt is formulating scheme to reach food to those under observation at home. Corona care centres shall be put up close so as to the airports to lodge symptomatic travelers from abroad. Steps have been taken to upgrade hospital facilities.

 

Monitoring of migrant workers at their camps has been directed for. District authorities and health workers have been instructed to initiate necessary steps including clean up of surroundings. There are individuals who take the directive against gathering rather lightly. Police would intervene in such situations to prevent assembly of persons, given the current circumstance, CM said.
