Thiruvananthapuram : Sree Narayana Guru is the great luminary who led Kerala into light of humaneness at a time it stayed hopelessly in the darkness of caste/religion discriminations and superstitions, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan .
Guru upheld man, with his humaneness, as one that is above all else. The caste and feudal systems that diminished such humanness and its ensuing Brahmanism and sectarian ideologies came scathing criticism of his philosophy. The Kerala we live in today is result of people of this taking up on themselves the struggle to realize that great ideology of humanness.
We still have a long way to go to transform ourselves into a society envisioned by Guru. Communal ideologies and remnants of caste system continue to stay put shamelessly amidst us even today. Steps must not become retraced from the milestones we traveled to in our journey so far. It is time to proclaim loudly that no caste or religion is above man. No narrow interests should be allowed to fragment the unity among us.
We need to work hard toward meeting that goal. Guru’s ideologies and the memory of his struggle will instill in us the zeal required to carryout that obligation. On this day, let’s pledge to imbibe all of that into our hearts and work for the wellbeing of our land. And, may such unity raise our society to loftier heights, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the post extending Guru Jayanti greetings to all.
