Kochi : The Health Department has confirmed Noro Virus infection in Ernakulam. Students at a Kakkanad school from standards 1st and 2nd were found ill with the virus. Following symptoms in about 62 students and guardians together, samples were sent to State Public lab where three came positive for the virus.
All three are under treatment and are said to be fine. The symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, fever etc
A team of Health Department officials led by the District Medical Officer visited the children. Classes at school have been closed temporarily. The school toilets and classrooms have been disinfected. Samples from drinking water sources have been sent for testing.
Super chlorination and other disinfection measures are in progress. Those who exhibited symptoms remain under observation. The infection is quickly cured and can be prevented effectively, said Health Department.
