Ankola : Operations continue in Karnataka’s Ankola where massive landslide on national highway killed at least 8 and has 3, including truck driver from Kozhikode, Arjun, still missing. The truck has been located as lying in Gangavalli river at its bottom. However, even as deep divers scramble through ultra-strong currents to reach up to the truck, officials expressed uncertainty of Arjun being in the truck’s interiors.
Major General Indrabalan Nambiar, heading the search operations, said that logs had come loose and littered up to 500 meters away from the truck in the river. The truck lies 10 meters deep from the surface, firmly lodged in the riverbed. There were metal pieces found at four places during excavation, the Major General said.
The drone’s thermal scanning failed to detect a human form inside the truck, Even so, thermal scanning sparsely yields signal in cold conditions of the river bottom; the very best will be tried for, the Major General said, speaking with media.
