Kochi : The Lakshadweep administration issued notice for demolition of a madrasa alleging illegal construction on government land. The notice from Deputy Collector targeted Al Madrasatul Ulumeiya n Minicoy island and cited breach of 1965 Lakshadweep Land Revenue and Tenancy Regulation Act.
If the construction is not violative, the madrasa should respond accordingly before the 26th. The notice addressed to the madrasa president also warns of demolition without prior intimation. The madrasa is decades old and we shall seek appropriate legal steps, said The Save Lakshadweep Forum coordinator Dr. Muammad Saddiqh.
A handful of landowners in Kalpeni island received similar notices recently. The notices summoned quick response and warned demoliton if the records produced were found unsatisfactory People in islands of Kavaratti, Bengram, Cherriyam and Suhali were also received notices warning of demolition for homes within 20 meter of sealine.
