Thiruvananthapuram : Minister P. Rajeev presented Lok Ayukta bill in the Assembly Tuesday noon. Lok Ayukta is not a judicial body. Rather, it is a investigation agency. There is no reference in Lok Ayukta that describes it as as judicial body, the minister told the House.
Nowhere in this world does an investigation agency also give out judgments on matters it probes. Also, it is unlawful for an investigative agency to take punishing into its fold. Imagine the consequences if police, that conducts investigations, also handed out punishments. That’s not in line with constitutional provisions, the minister said.
