Thrissur : Cancer treatment one roof is on way at Govt. Medical College in Thrissur where, patients undergoing cancer treatment will no longer have to go to multiple places once the construction of surgical oncology department building with modern facilities is complete. The facility is located in the respiratory illness wing of the hospital. The phase II construction works of Day Care and Chemotherapy ward have been completed.
Rs 3.5 crore has gone into construction of the building that’s being built in two phases. The first phase was completed during the tenure of PK Biju using Rs 1 crore from the MP’s Asset Development Fund while Rs 2.50 crore came from the Department of Health and Family Welfare toward the phase II constructions.
Four OP rooms, nursing station, record room, waiting room, two staircases each and nurses' rest room were rendered operational in the first phase. Construction of a conference hall, store room, waiting area and restrooms for patients and staff have been completed in the second phase.
The plan became included in the 2022-23 and Rs 5 crore was allocated for construction of the 3rd and 4th floors. Oncology department theater and ICU will be housed on the 3rd floor while conference hall is situated on the fourth floor.
Additionally, Rs 2 cr has been granted for the purchase of essential equipment for the surgical department. Apart from people of Thrissur, more than 300 patients from Palakkad, Malappuram and Ernakulam districts, visit the medical college for cancer treatment each day.
