Thiruvananthpauram : Former President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Kerala to discuss implementation of RSS agenda namely “One Nation, One Election”. The major part of the discussion was held with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. According to sources prominent RSS and BJP state leaders too were in attendance. The discussions reportedly took place shortly before Ram Nath Kovind was appointed as head of the One Nation One Election” Committee.
The former president twice visited Kerala in the past ten months and halted for several days each time, indicating he had begun the ground work well before being positioned as Committee head. The first time, Ram Nath Kovind arrived along with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan . There were no major events in State to speak of at the time. The President attended the inaugural ceremony of Vellanadu Research Library.
The second visit was on 19th of August when Ram Nath Kovind was also the Chief Guest at Onam celebrations held in Raj Bhavan. Other public appearances included those at Shantigir Ashram in Pothncode, Shantigiri, Narayana Gurukulam in Sivagiri.
Given the stiff resistance to One Nation One Election from Kerala, the former President reportedly arrived to discuss the topic well before he assumed charge as head of its Committee. CPI(M) has been the most vehement opposer to the RSS’s One Nation One Election. Opposition Parties across the country too do not favour the idea.
