Oomen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala Lose Significance; New Group Takes Shape

Thiruvananthapuram: New group emerges in Congress subduing the two dominant groups that sprinted and steered the party over decades. Reduced to insignificance now is Oomen Chandy's "A" Group that he took charge from AK Antony and “I” Group led by Congress’s own Ramesh Chennithala. KC Venugopal, K Sudhakaran, K Sudhakaran and  VD Satheesan created the new equation drawing on members from A and I groups. Incidentally, the majority on DCC presidents list are members who vowed never to return to their former groups. KC Venugopal  also  did his part of successfully swaying High Command support for the new group. With this, Congress workers have caught the message of Oomen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala’s great fall to insignificance.

The strategy was crafted rather carefully with view to the explosion expected  to break out when the new list of DCC presidents becomes known.  They even roped in  Muraleedharan to confront  Oomen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala when they reacted to the development. Oomen Chandy’s confidante, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, has switched sides too. He refrained from an open response in the incident,  only saying that, opinions must be expressed on party forums alone. The new group brought to fore Congress MPs including Rajmohan Unnithan. If Oomen Chandy and Chennithala have difficulty acknowledging High Command, they may form their own party, slammed Unnithan.

The group also launched teams to hail “Jai” for Sudhakaran on social media. With several group managers crossing the divide, an agitated response proved impossible. Still the A-I group is set to unleash fierce reaction in coming days, say sources.
