Oommen Chandy Summons Group Meeting; “I” Group Musters To Hit Back

Special CorrespondentUpdated: Thursday May 6, 2021

Thiruvananthapuram :  In the aftermath of pathetic defeat, Congress groups brace up  to put on show of strength. Oomen Chandy personally called an “A” Group meeting in Thiruvananthapuram deciding to  tide up against Ramesh Chennithala.

The Group members are now all set to  roast Mullapally and Chennithala at the Political Affairs Committee meeting scheduled Friday.  Aryadan Muhammad’s strategy for the day is devised  to  smoke out Mullapally and Chennithala. With group leaders coming head-on with tactics, crisis in Congress thickens.

The A Group meeting was held at  a flat in Kowdiar owned by Aryadan Muhammad’s friend. Senior leaders that gathered included Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, KC Joseph, K Babu and Thampanoor Ravi. The get-together was explained away as courtesy call to  check on Aryadan Muhammad’s health condition.

In the upcoming Politcal Affairs Committee meeting, “A” group is all set to insist overhaul of Assembly party posts  based on its analysis that   the onus  cannot be laid on just one person and that Chennithala and Mullappally are both  responsible for the election debacle.  The Kowdiar meeting agreed the two must go and make way for new leaders.

Meanwhile, the mood in “I” Group is for Chennithala to presently give up his  Opposition leader post and allow VD Satheeshan to do the job.  However, A Group is doing all in its powers to prop up Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on that chair. Criticising Mullappally among other things for being a sleepy president,  “I” Group seeks to send him packing this time around. Incidentally, High Command too has now lost interest in Mullappally.

There is concerted effort to oust Mullappally in the name of electoral defeat. And, High Command does not exactly disapprove the phenomenon. Having submitted his report explaining reasons for defeat, Mullappally now waits for developments to unfold  at the Political Affairs Committee meeting. Meanwhile, K Muraleedharan met with Mullappally once again and the KPCC president is expected to defend himself accusing the Supervisory Committee headed by Oomen Chandy as responsible for the debacle.

On the other side, “I” Group leaders are in conversation with Ramesh Chennithala. And, amid all the goings-on , K Sudhakaran who is keenly eyeing the KPCC president post iis poised cautiously. But that might be of little help given that,  both Chennithala and A group are vehemently opposed to having K Sudhakaran as KPCC president in any case.
