Kollam : The Opposition is turning Assembly into a venue for fist fights and physical confrontation; there must arise strong protest against this kind of slaying of democracy, said CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan.
At a time when there’s criticism peaking against leadership, the Opposition leader is trying to establish prominence and restore grip inside Congress, by making Assembly a stage for physical fights. Sustaining power and acceptance inside party should not be attempted at the cost of making an Assembly that functions for the highest number of days in the coutnry, into a passive spectator, said MV Govindan, speaking at Press Conference on sidelines of Janakeeya Prathirodha Jatha( People’s Resistance Rally) in Kollam.
With MPs and leaders en masse complaining to the High Command that leadership of both Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan’s are lacklustre, the Opposition leader is zealous to prove his ‘competency’ by leveling accusations and making physical attacks on Speaker and ministers. A complete failure in the eyes of public and Partymen, the leadership is trying to establish prominence in Party through goondaism. The discerning public of Kerala is intelligent enough to make out what it is about.
The Opposition has every right to protest in the Assembly. Likewise, the Speaker reserves right to decide if a particular adjournment notice should or not be admitted. However, picketing Speaker’s office after protesting in the Assembly is hitherto unheard of. The Speaker is guardian of parliamentary democracy. Stopping him from performing his duties is hugely undemocratic. Attacking the Speaker’s office makes clear UDF’s intolerance to democratic process.
Hold banner high above so as to obscure the Speaker’s face; later resort to picketing of his office; beat up the Watch and Ward who comes to the Speaker’s aid – all these cannot be accepted or allowed. Modi style slaying of democracy is being enacted in exact same manner by the Opposition in Kerala Assembly. There should arise strong protest against murder of democracy. All secular and democratic minded people must join the protest, said MV Govindan.
The government’s decision for Vigilance probe into Brahmapuram blaze is most welcome. What needs to be done now is initiate steps so the tragedy, never happens again. The three-tier investigations announced by government aims for that goal. Everybody should cooperate toward this, said MV Govindan.
