THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : There should be strong protests raised against hike in petrol and diesel prices , said CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan in a press statement.
The Centre has just announced hike the prices of petrol and diesel by steep Rs 3 in the name of Excise Tax. The Center’s hike comes at a time when crude oil prices in international markets have tumbled to a 20-year-low. The oil companies empowered with rights to decide prices unilaterally, continue to raise costs at their weekly reviews. Amid this onslaught comes govt’s arbitrary price hike of Rs 3. The Centre, instead of passing the benefits of reduced crude rates to the general public, is looking to use the opportunity to bloat its own treasury.
The rising costs of everyday commodities, crash in small scale businesses together with slump in prices for agricultural produce, have all made life miserable for the commoners. The Covid-19 scenario has added to the crisis. And amidst all this comes the totally unjustifiable fuel price hike slapped by the Centre.
The move is latest in poof showing cruel disregard BJP has for the people of this country given that, it's sole interest lies in protecting captial for the corporates. There should rise strong protests against this trend, said Kodiyeri adding that, the Centre should recall the fuel hike on immediate basis.
