Bengaluru : The Opposition Parties will come together at its meeting slated Monday to forge a united front against the Narendra Modi government’s authoritarian rule. Leaders representing 24 Parities will meet at Taj Westend Hotel in Bengaluru. The first meeting held on 23 June at Bihar Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, was attended by representatives from 15 Parties.
Congress is host to the multi-Party meet. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI General Secretary D Raja, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, RLD leader Jayant Chaudary and others will attend the meeting. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initially informed her inability to attend owing to a leg injury, however, according to latest reports she is expected to participate.
Sonia Gandhi will host dinner Monday evening for the delegates which will also see informal discussion thereafter. A joint press meeting will be held Tuesday evening. A committee shall be formed to prepare a common minimum programme and a suitable name chosen for the association.
Participant parties
Parties represented at the Bengaluru meeting are CPI( M), CPI, CPIML, Congress, AAP, Trinamool Congress, DMK, RJD, JDU, Samajwadi Party, NCP, Jharkhand Muktimorcha, National Conference, PDP and Shiv Sena (Uddav faction). Also participating are those who didn’t attend the Patna congregation namely, the RLD, Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress (Joseph), Muslim League, Forward Bloc, RSP, Vithutalai Chirutaikal Party (VCK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Konkudesa Makkal Party (KDMK).
