Thiruvananthapuram : Registration has been carried out via Avas scheme toward data collection, ID issuance and medical coverage purposes of the migrant workers, said State Minister for Labour, V Sivankutty. The minister was responding to MLAs Xavier Chiliapilly, PTA Raheem, P Mammikutty and Dr. Sujith Vijayan Pillai during the Question Hour in Assembly on Monday.
As on 7 March, 5,13,359 workers from outside states have registered under the scheme and received Avas Card.. Another 58,888 workers have registered under the Migrant Labourers Welfare Scheme.
It came to be noticed how hardened criminals in large numbers were slipping into the state with fake IDs and guised as migrant workers, the minister said. Three cases of this sort have been registered in Alappuzha and Kasaragod following information from the Home Dept. The cases are :Crime No. 1069/2018 and 1075/2019 in Venmani, Alappuzha and 683/2021 in Kasaragod.
Work is underway to develop a mobile application that will make it possible to collect details, including name and address, of migrant workers as soon they first arrive in the state. The App will be useful for collecting data on migrant workers as well as remittance of various govt welfare benefits.
NIS is entrusted with software development of the App. Meanwhile, NIS has completed designing of web portal in this regard. The Labour dept is taking steps to ensure speedy implementation of of App among workers, the Minister told the House.
