In Kollam, protest against reorganisation of Congress Mandalam presidents hits road. Congress workers bashed up one another during UDF’s padayatra in Karunagapally. The padyatra was being held under aegis of UDF Town Mandalam Committee led by UDF Mandalam Chairman R Devarajan and Mandalam President Jayakumar.
An argument broke between two sides even before padayatra could reach Aalumkadavu. Screaming match ensued soon as marches joined in. Those involved split to two sides and confronted one another. At first it was limited to shouting but soon escalated to blows and others including women in the procession ran helter skelter.
One side comprised KC Venugopal supporters Kappathur Roy, Anil Karamootil and so forth while Mandalam president Jayakumar, Ambili and others lined up in the opposite.
Some tried to calm the situation pushing back both sides however an agitated Jayakumar raced fiercely at Kappathur Roy accusing him of caste slur. Roy slammed back saying the political future for Jayakumar is over with this.. Post this, Roy and team parted shouting pro KC Venugopal slogans. The procession proceeded a bit and after meeting with waiting reception, ended there.
