Palarivattom Flyover Case : Govt seizes 4.5 crores from contracting company RDS

Kochi : The govt has begun proceedings to recover losses pertaining to the Palarivattom bridge corruption case. Authorities seized 4.5 crores from the controversial construction company, RDS.  4.13 crores have been deposited into the treasury, sources said.

 

The seized sum of 4.5 crores was paid to RDS by govt earlier, against performance guarantee. The recovered lumpsum has now been credited into the Corporation account.
 
Govt had earlier decided to recover losses after the 750m long flyover developed huge cracks in its pier caps of various pillars and collapsed at places, within 3 years of construction.
 
Public Works Minister G Sudhakaran said that Roads and Bridges corporation has been granted authority to recover losses from the flyover construction company. Proceedings to recover monies from culprits will continue, he added.

The Roads and  Bridges Corporation will be reconstituted for the purpose, the minister said
 

The controversial bridge was constructed during previous UDF tenure and has been closed for traffic since May this year.
