Pamba, Idamalayar Dams Open: Periyar Shores On High Alert

Pathanamthitta : The Pamba and Idamalayar dams opened early morning Tuesday. Two of   Pamba’s  shutters were raised by 30 cm and is currently draining  out 50,000 litres  water per second.

Idamalayar dam opened its two shutters 80 cms each.

It is expected for Pamba to rise 10 cm further. Places along Pamba, namely Ranni, Aranmula, Arattupuzha and Chengannur could witness some flooding.

Water from Idamalayar dam - opened 6 am this morning - will reach Bhoothathankettu by 12 noon and will hit  Kaladi-Aluva region by 12 afternoon. High alert has been announced for settlements along Periyar. The river is expected to swell high by one meter.
