Pathanamthitta : Fears of flooding from rivers owing to heavy rainfall coupled with discharge of excess dam waters, have eased for residents in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha after authorities closed the shutters to Pamba Dam early this morning.
The six floodgates, raised 60 cm high on Sunday, were shuttered after water levels in the dam lowered to their normal marks. Around 82 cubic meter of water was drained from the shutters raising water levels in Vaiki and Pamba rivers by 30- 40 cm. Dam waters drain into Pamba Triveni before reaching Pamba.
Water levels in the dam eased after rainfall thinned down in the area allowing authorities to close shutters. The dam capacitated for levels of 986.332 meter, currently holds water up to 982.8 meter.
