Thiruvananthapuram : High drama ensued in League after Panakkad family came down heavily on PK Kunjalikutty accusing him for being wholly responsible for the trouble it has landed in now. Following the outbursts, Kunjalikutty raced to Malappuram forgoing the Assembly session on Friday.
The family broke into outburst on Thursday after the Enforcement Directorate(ED) summoned Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal - the Muslim League State President - for quizzing over money laundering at party newspaper company Chandrika.
At a press conference held yesterday, Panakkad Shihab Thangal’s son Moeen Ali Thangal had lashed out saying PK Kunjalikutty is fully responsible for landing his ailing father into the mess of ED questioning. The conference was disrupted midway with Rafi, popularly known as Kunjalikutty’s goonda, barging into the hallway hurling threats and verbal abuses at Moeen. Rafi has a history of putting on thug behavior for defending Kunjalikutty.
The conference convened by Moeen at state committee office, the League House, shocked the party leadership and supporters alike. ED’s notice for questioning money laundering at Chandrika daily has broken Hyderali Shihab Thangal, said Moeen at the conference. Kunjalikutty has full knowledge of everything and it he who has been handling all money and fund matters of League for the past 40 years, Moeen told the reporters.
However, the menacing entry of Kunjalikutty’s goonda at the time, disrupted Moeen’s course of talk with the media. Incidentally, Moeen is also the All-India Muslim Youth League vice president. He had earlier opposed Kunjalikutty’s resignation of MP post for return to state politics and subsequent Khatua-Unnao fund fraud.
Moeen knows he is not alone in his open protest against Kunjalikutty. The protest draws on emotions felt over ED's summoning of Hyderali Thangal, who apart from being the League president is also his father.
There was animosity in League circles against Kunjalikutty from early on as they blamed him for trapping Hyderali Thangal and causing the family disrepute. Incidentally, leaders who rushed to defense of Kunjalikutty at the state office bearers’ meeting did not come to his aid this time around. And, the unearthing of black money belonging to Kunjalikutty' son’ deposited with Malappuram Co-operative Bank, his using Chandrika daily as cover for money laundering and posing as VK Ebrahimkunj’s saviour in Palarivattom flyover scam, has all served to put Kunjalikutty into rather tight spot.
