Minister Mohammed Riyas inaugurates bridge opening

Kochi : The Parappuram - Vallamkadav opens to public in what would be a Onam gift for Ernakulam. The bridge with throughfare to Kaladi, Kanjur, Sreemulangaram and Nedumbassery panchayat was inaugurated by Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas.  Behnan MP  and MLA Anwar Sadat too were present at the ceremonial opening.

The bridge links constitutencies of Peramubavur and Aluva and cost the State exchequer Rs 23 cores. The LDF government sanctioned funds for the bridge in 2016 . The construction began soon after but hit a slow pace owing to  floods of 2018 and the original contracting company backing out.

When work paused, the CPI(M) District Secretary CN Mohanan approached PWD Minister PA Mohammed Riyas and construction resumed after fresh tendering was processed. The bridge urns a length of 289.45 , is 11.23 meters wide with pavements on both sides.

The bridge now open to traffic means easy access  to Nedumbassery airport from Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta district. The Parappuram - Vallamkadave Bridge also doubles up as bypass for Kaladi Sreesankara bridge and the most traffic-congested area on MC road, namely Kaladi town.

Now it would be possible for travelers from outside districts coming the MC road way to avoid Kaladi town while headed to Nedumbassery airport. Also, one is spared a 6-km ride when traveling to Kanjur from Perumbavoor. Also travel is significantly eased now in trips to St. Marys Church, Puthyedam Temple and Tirvairanikulam temple located on either sides of Periyar.
