KOCHI : A petition seeking arrest of former minister and Muslim League leader ,Ibrahim Kunj, in connection with Palarivattom Flyover scam, has been filed in the High Court.  Ibrahim Kunj is spared arrest despite being arraigned in the case, tells  Kalamassery native Gireesh Babu in his plea to the court.

Girish urges  Court to  issue order  that would lead Ibrahim Kunj’s immediate arrest.  Though other accused persons including T. O Suraj have been arrested, Ibrahim Kunj charged with conspiracy has been left out. The plea further draws Court's attention to  Vigilance personnel send on supension for helping the culprits. While being allowed to remain scot-free, the accused is likely to harass or influence witnesses, says the petition.

Responding to the plea, the  c
ourt expressed dissatisfaction over lack of folow-up action, despite 11 days passing since Ibrahim Kunj’s arraignment in the case. Why is  nothing being done ? the  Court asked the  police.

The petitioner laid before the court, snapshots circulated widely on social media where Ibrahim Kunj’s is seen alongside the Chief Minister. The court disapproved the submission saying the pictures were inapropriate and  could mislead probe officials into believing that govt was siding with the  culprit.

Girish’s petition made another accusation. In the days post demonetization, a sum of Rs 10 crore was invested in  Chandrika daily – a newspaper Ibrahim Kunj was put in charge of. That sum, claimed the petitioner,  is illicit payment received  from Palarivattom flyover deal The court today however kept its focus on Girish’s request for court order calling for Ibrahim Kunj's arrest.

It  asked Vigilance officials to submit a report  before 7 April specifying  action being taken against Ibrahim Kunj and further to enumerate details on  Vigilance staff under suspension along with their testimonies.
