Kochi : The High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking probe against the Chief Minister in the ongoing gold smuggling case. The Public Interest Litigation urged the court to invoke criminal charges followed by  investigations into the Gold Smuggling Case, Sprinklr and e-Mobility scheme too. The plea was turned down by the Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice.

NIA is currently probing the gold smuggling case and is competent to investigate all aspects of the probe and  don’t even require a state govt recommendation to do that, the division bench observed. The Centre has informed the court of NIA probe on the case, hence there is no judicial intervention required, the Bench observed.Leveling allegations against the Chief Minister and other prominent individuals is not sufficient premise to order such probe, the court added.

The petition was submitted by Cherthala native Michael Varghese.
