Thiruvananthapuram : Protesting centre’s relentless raising of fuel prices for the 19th consecutive day, CPI(M) will hold demonstrations outside central government offices today.
The protests are slated at all local centres and will adhere to covid related state-rules. While crude oil prices in international markets are fairly down, the centre has upped added duties to raise their prices for the common man. Looting a population already devastated by the pandemic is unacceptable, said CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and demanded that the Centre immediately pull back its unfair hike rolled out in recent days.
On Thursday, oil marketing companies raised price of petrol by 16 paise and diesel by 14 paise per litre. The diesel price hike is 19th to happen since beginning of a daily-spike series that began on June 7. The price of petrol was left unchanged on Wednesday after a gap of 17 days. The unceasing hikes are reportedly aimed to help OMCs make up for sluggish sales during lockdown. Price of diesel has now cross Rs 80 per litre and for the first time surpasses cost of petrol.
