Thiruvananthapuram : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed concern over the moves for bringing in the ‘One Nation, One Election’ system as part of the hideous agenda to bestow unhindered power to the Centre and called upon democratic forces in the country to strongly resist it.
There looms huge threat over India and its parliamentary democracy. The ‘One Nation, One Election’ slogan being raised by the Sangh Parivar heightens this threat. It is a glimpse to the inner agenda of Sangh Parivar, its aim to grant unrestricted power to the Centre by toppling the federal system of the country.
The agenda seeks to destabilise the State governments that will not bend to Centre’s diktats and find ways to grab power of such states. The Sangh Parivar proposition diminishes significance of the Rajya Sabha, that stands as one of the mainstays of the Indian parliamentary system. It is the Assembly election conducted at varied times, which regularly renews the position of various political parties in the Rajya Sabha. Hence, any move to impose simultaneous conduct of Lok Sabha and assembly elections would erode the political diversity of Rajya Sabha.
The Sangh Parivar is hasting with concept from its fear of debacle in Assembly elections due in five States this year. They are scared of the fact that a setback in these States could impact outcome in the Lok Sabha elections to follow and that the NDA’s position in the Centre could be in jeopardy. But, inevitably, the Constitution of India and the parliamentary democratic order will not allow the country's electoral system to be dismantled as the Sangh Parivar wants. Attempts by the Sangh Parivar to overthrow India's very existence as a democratic nation must be resisted in every sense. The Chief Minister said that the democratic forces of the country should come forward against measures aimed at destroying the diversity of the parliamentary democratic system by undermining constitutional values, said CM.
