Kochi : Recent developments in UDF are indicative of its base falling apart, both at organizational and political level, said CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. UDF is set to get frail without Kerala Congress. On the other hand, these inevitable quakes will serve to bolster LDF position in the state - a reason why Congress decided to forge ties with Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI, said Kodiyeri in his article in Deshabhimani commemorating the legacy of Punnapra-Vayalar veteran PK Chandrananandan.
“The stage is set for several turnaround developments to happen in Kerala politics. UDF has decided to sever ties with its longstanding ally - the Mani faction of Kerala Congress. The event points to Congress’s failure to reconcile matters between the two warring factions namely - Jose K Mani and PJ Joseph. The split will further weaken an already frail UDF, structurally and politically. UDF lacks a coordination-driven leadership. These fallouts are a result of that malady and will accelerate the front’s downfall further.
Kerala Congress is a majority-backed coalition partner of the UDF. Losing it would mean a terribly weak UDF. LJD that allied with UDF during last elections, is currently with LDF. Given the state of affairs, a panic-stricken UDF is experimenting ties with SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami, while LDF forges ahead robust with growing public support, a picture that will become clear in the upcoming local body elections.
At this juncture, the memory of PKC will inspire us greatly to take on added responsibilities,” concluded Kodiyeri in his tribute to the illustrious leader.
