Thiruvananthapuram : KSEB explains the cropping of plantains below high tension lines, running between Kothamangalam and Varapetti saying, on 4th August at 12:56 pm there occurred disruption to power line at Moolamattam plant. Upon inspection and upon inspection it was found that some of the plantains in the complainant’s field swayed in the winds and touched the line above causing fire.
Sensing imminent danger to human lives, the plantains were cut down on urgent basis. As the ensuing loss gave rose to a humanitarian situation, the KSEB director decided to pay adequate compensation to the grower after due consultations with the Agriculture Dept.
As per the departmental report, the grower had planted plantains under 220 KV power line. It was also found that a woman in the neighbourhood had suffered burns from minor electric shock. As it was important to restore the 220 KV line, the plantains were cleared on emergency basis, the officials said.
