Thiruvananthapuram : Hartal called by Popular Front saw widespread violence across state. Vehicles. including public transport KSRTC buses, were stoned and glass screens shattered in Kozhikode, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kollam and Wayanad. The dawn-to-dusk hartal ended at 6 pm evening.
In Kannur’s Narainparmbu, petrol bombs were hurled at a vehicle that carried newspapers of the day. Elsewhere in the district, miscreants blocked a loaded truck and forcibly took away the keys.
In Konni’s Kulathur, stones flung at KSRTC bus wounded senior clerk at Sub-registrar Office, Bobby Michael, in his eye.
In Pallimukil in Kollam, hartal-supporters knocked policemen down hitting them with bike. Senior Civil Police Officer Antony and CPO Nikhil were injured in the incident, of whom Antony sustained serious wound on his head.

Stones were hurled at KSRTC bus and windscreens broken in Perinthalmanna along Guruvayur - Sultan Batheri route close to Jubilee Road junction. The attackers were a pair of bikers who showed up in front of the bus.
A vehicle headed to Kannur airport was stopped and wrecked completely. Hartal supporters held road picketing at Payoli and Erattupetta and also clashed with police. Police resorted to lathi charge later at Erattuupetta and took several miscreants into custody, of whom 3 were booked for hurling stones.
Context : The hartal comes in reaction to NIA and ED raids nationwide on Popular Front offices and its leaders’ residences, followed by arrests of some among them.
