Kochi : Fearful of awaiting protests, Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Khoda Patel dodged his Kochi halt and headed straight for the island capital of Kavaratti instead. According to previously announced schedule, Patel was to arrive in Nedumbassery earlier in the day before leaving for Dweep - a plan that was modified the last minute. Patel took an Air Force chopper from Daman Diu flying straight to the Lakshadweep.
The island, under aegis of Seva Lakshadweep Forum, is observing black day to denounce Patel’s return. The islanders are all clad in black clothes to mark their protest. The Administrator is expected to stay in Lakshadweep up to 20th of this month. According to sources, the arrival will see announcement of more controversial reforms for the island. Meanwhile, security has been tightened around the Administrator, given the protests and mood of the natives whose life and peace have been suddenly disrupted.
