New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled status quo on appointment of Priya Varghese as Associate Professor at Kannur University. The status quo will continue until there's a final verdict in the case, the Court clarified.
The ruling came over appeal filed by the UGC in the Supreme Court against the judgment of Kerala High Court Division Bench that approve appointment of Priya Varghese to the post. The Division Bench had found Priya eligible for appointment. The University subsequently appointed her after their own pursuit of legal advice.
Priya joined work on 4th of July. The High Court based its verdict on observation that research involves being part of various student projects, should not be excluded from teaching experience.
However the UGC countered the pointing out it was not in line with statute of 2018 relating to appointment of Associate Professors.
