Thiruvananthapuram: Prohibitory orders took effect across districts today morning. The measure comes  in view of rapidly spreading coronavirus infections in the state.

The districts under sec 144 of Criminal Procedure include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha , Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. The orders hold good until 31 October.

Restrictions would be more stringent in containment zones, where people would be stopped from making non-essential travels. Crowd at functions are capped. Only 20 persons in all, shall be allowed at funerals and 50 at marriages. Also, only 20 people shall be allowed for marriages held inside containment zones. Similarly only a maximum of 20 persons shall participate in social, political or cultural events and cramming at such sites is strictly prohibited. Also organisers have been instructed to avoid  public spaces for such gatherings.

Only five people at a time shall be allowed at shops, hotels, restaurants etc. Under the orders, the local self governing bodies and police will make efforts to keep public spaces crowd-free. There would be no curbs on public transport.

Much of the state has been clamped with sec 144 owing to swelling virus caseloads. Yesterday, four districts in the state  recorded above 1000 daily case tally for covid.
