Kochi: Thrikkakara MLA P.T. Thomas should tender resignation and face criminal charges for initiating black money transactions in the Anjumana land deal, said CPI(M). His role in the scam is criminal and should be investigated by Vigilance, said CPI(M) District Secretary CN Mohanan at a press conference held in the city.
Though the land owner and CPI(M) Branch Secretary at Thrikkakara agreed for the deal to be transacted entirely in cheque, MLA PT Thomas intervened to introduce cash remittances in the the sale. Thomas also intervened and lowered the sale price of Rs 1.3 crore by Rs 80 lakhs. These interventions amount to criminal acts, said the party’s District Secretary.
A probe is a must to find out, where such large amounts of money came from? And what links the MLA possibly has with black money reacketeers ? What exact role did MLA play in the deal ; Is he a middleman ? Which other cases has he been involved in previously ? Where did the black money seized in the current deal, originate from ? - all these and more should come to light via investigations. Despite illegal transactions happening under the nose, Thomas did not inform the police or Income Tax department. The property deal was in reality a shady co-venture between the MLA and his wealthy friend. And Thomas's illegal interventions resulted in state’s Registration Department losing a neat Rs 9 lakhs in levies.
PT Thomas has in effect abused his position as people’s representative, said CPI(M) leaders at the press meet. The party will organize protest programmes seeking MLA’s resignation for his doings, they added.
