New Delhi : Legendary sprinter and Member of Parliament PT Usha is set to be elected as president of the Indian Olympics Association(IOA), thus becoming the first woman to hold the top post in IOA.
The deadline for nominations ended Sunday, 27 November with Usha being the sole candidate. Usha is one of the most decorated Indian athletes, winner of 11 medals that include four gold in Asian Games from 1982 -94. She also won 23 medals , including 4, in the Asian Championships from 198 -98. Usha is most remembered for missing out on 400 m hurdles final in Los Angeles Olympics of 1984, by just one hundredth of a second.
She will assume office as IOA president on 10 December.
