THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The govt prepares to take stern action against KSRTC’s flash strike on Wednesday during which, an elderly man collapsed to death at the bus stand. . Minister Kadakampally Surendran hit out at the employees of the State-owned transporter, dubbing their call as “public harm in the name of strike”. He visited the family of the deceased, Surendran, at their house in Kadakampally.
Arrangements shall be made to financially help family of the deceased; Shall meet Chief Minister and Transport Minister in this regard , he added. What happened was gross, the minister said, adding that KSRTC waged a war on the public, whose tax money is being used for running the corporation. The situation was hopeless, with buses left on the streets helter-skelter ; wrongdoing shall not be tolerated in the name of strike, the minister told reporters after visiting the Surendran’s house.
The District Collector will submit his report on the Wednesday strike and death of the elderly man. The postmortem was performed at Trivandrum Medical College this morning. Action against KSRTC staff will be based on the Collector’s report.
The Chief Minister has asked take serious view of the incident. The District Collector had called an urgent meeting yesterday to assess the issue. Nobody will be allowed to lay siege to public roads, the Collector told delegates at the meeting. According to sources, the govt will initiate disciplinary action with a pinch of caution , in view of Attukal Pongala being round the corner.
Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicles Department is preparing to book drivers who steered KSRTC buses out of the garages and parked them on streets, in order to create deliberate blocks.
